This photo is of the main street of the Avalon Bay Apartment Community adjacent to the Pleasant Hill Bay Area Rapid Transit station in Pleasant Hill, CA about 27 miles east of downtown San Francisco. The apartments are part of the 141-acre Contra Costa Centre transit-oriented development that has been underway for three decades. Based on information at the website for the apartments, it appears that the apartments have rented well. Walking around the neighborhood it looks as though planners, or the developer, were too optimistic about retail demand as most of the retail space remains vacant fourteen months after the grand opening on October 2, 2010.
